Seascape Painting in Oils with the Palette Knife // Weekend Workshop with the artist Brenda Malley // February 15 & 16 // 10:00 - 16:00

This weekend course will introduce you to seascape and coastal painting in oils, combining brushwork and palette knife techniques to fully express the vitality and energy of the subject.

 

Through a series of demonstrations Brenda will share her painting process from start to finish. Over the 2 days you will learn to:

 

study your subject through initial sketches

compose your picture

choose a focal point and identify directional flow

block in your shapes quickly with a brush

then add life, movement and texture with the palette knife.

You will have time each day to develop your paintings with personal guidance and instruction. Most of all, this course is about building your confidence to paint with fluidity, ease and enjoyment.

 

COURSE FEE: € 180

*some materials supplied, though a small materials list will be sent to each participant

 

Tutor Bio:

Brenda Malley’s career as a professional artist and art tutor spans over 25 years while living in the USA, France, and now at home in Greystones, County Wicklow.

Brenda’s seascape paintings are characterised by the energy and fluidity of her palette knife work, and by the textural richness with which she expresses the surge and flow of the natural elements where land meets sea.

Following her first solo exhibition in the Leinster Gallery Dublin in 2008, Brenda received a Culture Ireland award to present a solo exhibition in Boston. Her work is represented by the Trinity Gallery, Dublin and the Whitethorn Gallery in Clifden.

Brenda’s art was featured in the RTÉ Nationwide programme in 2018.

Brenda divides her time between her studio in Glendarragh in the Wicklow countryside, teaching workshops around Ireland, and conducting painting holidays in France, Italy and Croatia.
