Self Portrait in Oils // A 6 Week Course with Artist Bríd Higgins Ní Chinnéide // Starts Tuesday April 18th // 18:00 - 21:00
SKILLSETS is delighted to welcome back artist Bríd Higgins Ní Chinnéide to teach a 6 week course on self-portraiture using oil paint. The course will cover self-portraiture from life, using a mirror, and self portraiture using references from photographs and art history. Themes of self-scrutiny, self-presentation and the artist's distancing from self-image will be discussed.
The course will include studying the historical and current practice of self-portraiture through the medium of paint. The first 3 weeks of the course will be spent creating a self portrait from life using a mirror, and the last 3 weeks will be spent creating a self portrait using external references such as photographs.
Participants are welcome to use artefacts and costume as part of their self-portrait work. Bríd will offer guidance on the use of oil paints and materials, but the focus of the course will be on making two, different self portraits.
Class will run from 18:00 until 21:00 every Tuesday evening for 6 weeks.
*This course is intended for people with some experience of using oil paints.
Course Fee: €275
* Some materials will be provided, though a small materials list will be sent to each participant.
Your Tutor:
Bríd Higgins Ní Chinnéide trained at the St Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts in Russia. She was a Sky Portrait Artist of the Year semi-finalist. She is a current recipient of the Dean Arts Studios residency and she exhibits regularly. She has exhibited self portraits at the RHA Annual exhibition and at the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait exhibition in London.

If you cannot attend the workshop we can reschedule your workshop if you inform us up to 21 days prior to the workshop's start date. If you request to reschedule less than 21 days before the workshop starting date we will not be in a position to change the date.
